If you have any questions, feel free to email us.
1. Register by July 31
Complete the Registration Form by July 31, 2022, 11:59pm PT. Participants registering as individuals will be assigned into a group. If you have partner(s) you will participate with, all members must individually sign up and write the emails of their team members in the Registration Form.
2. Receive Case Packet
On August 1, 2022, all participating teams will receive a Case Packet. Our case will center on ideating solutions for problems Cal students face.
3. Upload Case Submission
All participating teams must upload their Case Submission by August 7, 2022 at 11:59pm PT, onto a form released via email. Submissions will be screened by the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) leads and SAP partners.
4. August 9th: Conference Day!
We will choose the top 8 teams to present their cases to the OCTO team for Conference Day. From the presenting teams, OCTO will select the top 3 teams as well as honorary mentions, who will be referred for the Competition Awards. All teams are encouraged to attend these presentations - we have an amazing line-up of guest speakers from SAP.
5. The Awards
The winners will be given internship interview opportunities at SAP as well as participate in SAP's internal innovation event, InnoJam. Winners will represent UC Berkeley at InnoJam to work with SAP engineers on creating solutions for SAP's Product Support. InnoJam will be a two-day event on August 17 and August 18, 2022.
6. Implement Your Strategies
All participating teams will be invited to join OCTO to execute their solutions and have a direct positive impact on the Cal student experience.
- Will it be virtual?
- Is there a Registration fee?
- How many students are allowed on each team?
We allow teams of two or three students. All participants must be full-time undergraduate students at UC Berkeley. Moreover, do not worry if you do not have a team together - you can register for the competition as an individual, and we will pair you up with a group of one or two other students.
- What will the Case Packet contain?
The Case Packet, to be released on August 1, 2022, will contain three main sections. The first section will introduce the Competition and contain our Purpose and Vision Statement. The second section will provide a broad overview of the Competition, re-visit some policies and rules, and provide color on OCTO's platform and the solutions that the organization has brought to the campus. The third section will contain the Case Prompt along with a few guiding questions and notes.
- How will teams' Case Submission be assessed?
There are a total of two rounds of assessment. The first screen will be conducted by OCTO leads & SAP partners. We will evaluate all slidedecks according to a rigorous and standardized assessment rubric co-developed by OCTO and SAP. The second screen will be applied to only the top 8 teams selected to present on Conference Day. OCTO leads will judge the submissions live.
- Is there a length requirement for our team's slidedeck?
We ask teams to limit their slidedeck, including any title or appendix pages, to a maximum of 18 pages. There are additional rules and policies concerning Case Submissions - they will be published in the Case Packet on August 1, 2022.
- When will teams be selected to present on Conference Day?
After uploading your Case Submission on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at 11:59pm PT, select teams will be notified by OCTO if they have advanced to Conference Day by 9:00pm PT on August 9, 2022.
- What awards are available for participating teams?
If your team is selected as a winner, everyone on the team will be:
1) granted an internship interview opportunity at SAP
2) participating virtually in SAP's internal innovation event, InnoJam, on August 17 - 18, 2022.
3) invited to OCTO to lead their idea into execution and directly impact the Cal student body.
- Why should I participate in this Case Competition?
From being fully virtual to back in-person, student resources and needs are changing; hence, so should the platforms that provide them. Who else can solve problems that students face better than the students themselves? By bringing our brilliant minds together, OCTO believes we can all do our part in positively impacting the Cal student experience and make it an exemplary model for the future.
